Prof. Edward Clarke, Ph.D.When considering the choice between QR identification tags and traditional patents, it is important to recognize the special advantages of each system. QR tags embed a considerable number of medically important facts and many contacts behind individually encrypted website profiles. Engraved patents offer on-the-spot reading without the need for technology. Since using both systems together is the safest means of identification. Because they complement each other, I strongly advocate recognizing both types of identification systems.
QR Smart Tags
- Encrypted profiles with password protection
- Dynamic updates without replacing physical tags
- Medical alert systems showing conditions instantly
- Multiple contacts accessible through one scan
Traditional Engraved
- Immediate readability without technology
- Permanent information unaffected by connectivity
- Simple maintenance with no digital management
- Universal compatibility for all finders
QR codes transform alerts for medically needy pets; they store all specific details relating to insulin schedules, allergy lists, and the veterinary records online. Any change in medication can be relayed to emergency crews instantly. This feature was of immense value to emergency teams who needed exact dosage information instantly during my days of managing diabetes with my dog.
Always pair QR tags with basic engraving for technology failures. If the tags are physical, include your phone number and basic medical alerts, such as diabetes, on the tag. This saved my client's dog because a rescuer couldn't scan the water-damaged QR code under a storm when rescue was needed.
QR systems use encryption to protect privacy. Ownership of the QR system grants control over what contact information is made available once the password obtained in the initial transaction has been confirmed. The physical tag does not contain any personal information. This feature protects sensitive information from strangers while allowing other forms of necessary contact to get to the owner of the QR system.
